I was upset at how dramatic the new changes were for con giving you extra HP when I saw Dustyn make a very small change to his set and end up with 745hp 609mana. I was going to post a note ranting about how I thought these changes should be voted on or perhaps that yet another change reducing the frequency of PKs was going to cost us even more players retiring or whatever and I thought you know what. It doesn't matter what I think. I could be wrong. Even though I have strong evidence to support my idea that continuous changes bringing the game further and further from PK has been harmfull. What I want to know is YOUR opinion. Every please use whatever voice you have.
If many other muds are still thriving and active in these times of graphic games:
Why is TFC dying?
Tynian and the immortal staff are fair and they don't cheat, there are new zones and bugs are getting fixxed. Lotsa hard work went into TFC and it's a great place. SO:
Why? You tell me realm please, I am eager to hear what everyone thinks.

This definitely became a rant. Went from one thing to another.

Con shouldn't be useless, but it shouldn't give crazy hp either. I voted just for regen while standing, and Tyn said this was a first draft. People need to stop talking about TFC dying, it's been said for years and yet TFC is still here. The only thing it does is (I assume) give Tyn less incentive to code and quite honestly, pisses me off.

The HP bonus seems to be proportionate to the mana bonus. I agree with Anduin, ranting and complaining about things is hurting more than helping. Every MUD has lost players over the years, it is not a specific TFC thing. We have to accept a lot of our friends have moved on to other things. If you remain, you remain by choice and the best thing you can do is get behind the staff and give constructive criticism not just ranting. I think the new stat things add depth to the game and give players a choice, would you rather wear this damage equipment or perhaps put on some extra int/con for the bonuses. TFC has evolved beyond just stacking damage and da and slashing your way through things.

fair enough. and no anduin I don't just rant and complain I work on zones that I'm writing everyday and work with thor to help iron out bugs in the new area writer because I fully intend to do my part to give back to the game and the only intentions I had with this thread was to try to get others opinions and feedback because -I- feel like taking a crack at getting some old people to make comebacks is a good idea.

I never said you just rant, I said this was a rant.

I like the con change. but then again, i like mayonaise in my shoes. :P

seriously though, the new system does give you a reason to wear con other than just for regen equip.

and thats MY rant, and i'm sticking with it! (will save my political rants for another forum...)

I'm not going to tip toe around the question like everyone else did. TFC is dieing because it is dieing. i.e., I choose not to log in because of the lack of playerbase. When juxtaposed to other choices I have, TFC is not worth the greater consumption of time. When I log in it seems i spend 60% of my time being bored, doing something I have already done or waiting/looking for something to do. I am a bgi fan of most of the new changes adn I believe that these are changing times in a changing world and things need to change to stay interesting. In the past I may have blamed code changes that limited "quick and easy PK" for the decline of the player base, while at that time I played mostly evil characters and many of my friends and ally's did leave because of the dmg cap, floating dmg, and the new debt system etc... I do believe that some changes still hinder the mud today, especially yhe current sub 20 pk structure, because it does not allow new/small characters to enjoy this aspect of the game... but I do not believe that any changes are the sole culprit of our declined player base... I have tried in the year to make a come back and I have brought a couple of my friends back with me but we have all stopped playing again simply for the lack of player and immortal participation. I'm not only talking about FLI's either, Im talking about god quests that were rampant in the late 90's and nearly non existant since the deletion of Lorna. Then again, don't we all have this ideal view of what TFC used to be, and maybe our judgement is so cklouded that we can barely remember all of the facts, but jsut the ones that we appreciated the most. For me, I will never entirely retire, and each winter I will make a return and spend some of my free time here, because I love the realm that was created here and I do still find plenty of enjoyment here. Like most other people though, I do not live purely to MUD, I have other greater responsibilities and I need to choose wisely where and how to spend my time.

Whistler you are naturally going to approve of the con changes because you have the HP of a lvl 14 mage :P Morgaine really did highlight some things though, some changes have made entire groups retire, those groups still visit... therefor... let's try to keep them active. New zones, new items, maybe undo a couple changes that were largely disapproved.

i agree that we need to implement new zones, and new stuff. people get bored with the same old same old pretty quickly...but its a lot of work. I'm just as bad as the next guy about letting someone else do the work...but if we really want to see this game prosper, we all have to commit to do something about it ourselves. (yes, i know, i should be commited.) yes, its easy to whine and complain, and not so easy to write a zone, but at least get it on your to do list....eventualy it may make it to the top of the list. this having been said, i realize i should dust off my notes for an area i suggested last year.....sigh.....

i agree that we need to implement new zones, and new stuff. [...]

I personally love exploring, mapping, discovering, etc. So, yes -- adding zones would be motivation for me to stick around. I'm just not sure it would have a similarly compelling effect on others. If we added a dozen zones tomorrow, would even a handful of retired players return?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I'll even start giving some thought to doing my part. I'm am saying it's only one piece of the puzzle.

Certain changes alluded to above may also have contributed to a declining player base, but I suspect in a majority of cases it's an issue of changing priorities over the course of one's life. Maybe I'm wrong. Are there players out there that would come back tomorrow if change A or change B were rolled back? If so, please tell us which change and how many people would return.

On the actual topic of this thread... I like the change to con in game mechanics terms. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to the introduction of an appropriate counterbalance. Also, shouldn't we get a mvs bonus from Dex? ;)

I agree.

In general, we're a very old player base. Many of us have been around for years. Heck, I started TFC when I was 24, single, and going to college. My life is way different now. I imagine it's a time issue for most of us, and after so many years, there's the boredom factor, as well. Aaaaand, for those that like the social interaction (from a role-play or PK sense), less people online to interact with is also taking a toll.

I think of moves as CON-dependent, as well, myself. I haven't done anything with it, as higher level characters always seem to have enough of them anyhow.
