A new quest was posted last night, focusing on Thieves. It lasts 1 week. Log in to learn more. :)

.. No entries received thus far.... :(

Cordir

And no entries were received on that one.

Ran another quest : A storytelling competition. Had two bards competing.

Tikruul won the overall competition
Cresom won the 'highest number of items turned in' competition.

Both bards passed their Bardic Council with their performances and won some fun prizes.

Ran a quest yesterday. It was based on one that Madman ran, over a decade ago. The *point* of the quest was to drop a given task into the laps of those present, with little/no warning, and see how fast they can adapt. To think it through, ask questions up front, and then leap into action. It didn't work so well. Neither of the two teams was able to complete the tasks, so no prizes were given (it was all or nothing, full completion required: no one won when Madman ran it, either, though Kaern's team came closest). We did have someone disqualified from completion based on behavior, which affected the second team. That player did subsequently apologize, which I appreciated.

While I won't be running that same version of the quest again, with the same mobs, I will likely do something similar in the future. Hopefully everyone took some good learning points from the quest - I know I did.

Another challenge that I will be doing in the future is to set a group - I haven't decided the size limit - to the challenge of slaying Lanae, my Avatar from the Avatar Wars. There would be a time limit in place: I.e. a group of up to but no more than X number of people must defeat her in x amount of time. The time would be short, to increase the challenge. (During the avatar wars, one of the combats took well over 30 minutes of straight combat. Ink and Teva worked on her last night for over 30 minutes, and got her to about half HP.) I also had folks express interest in taking on other (historical) god+ 'pets,' which I'll discuss with Upper Level Management :)

I may also be looking into the possibility of some sort of mixed avatar combat + pVp combat (Ie, do whatever it takes to keep your team's avatar alive, while helping it kill the other team's, up to and including attacking members of the other team to prevent them from helping their avatar / attacking yours) -- but I'd be curious as to whether or not folks would find that fun.

Absolutely that would be fun! Love the last idea. :)

What about this: Cat & Mouse (http://mud.finalchallenge.net/tfc/community/timeline/2002/catmouse.html)

I like it!

Fun, but I think turning on special conditions (corpse in inventory) would increase participation.

Cordir
March 15th, 2011, 08:24 AM
Oh, agreed: I wouldn't run Cat & Mouse without it.

Kylor
March 15th, 2011, 08:37 AM
I like the cat&mouse idea just not sure if OMs should be able to obscure since they could whozone and obscure anyone that finds them.

Cordir
March 15th, 2011, 08:41 AM
I agree: Obscure would be against the spirit of the Cat & Mouse game, and would be disallowed.

This does not consist of a promise or pledge, I'm just asking the question and looking for feedback.

What do you guys think of "regularly scheduled events" - such as:

Mondays: Mega Mobs - group or solo battles against special mobs in the Arena, or maybe a swarm of MG or other area.
Tuesdays: Trivia
Wednesdays: (Sorry, you're outta luck, that's the night Criminal Minds is on! :P)
Thursday: Cat & Mouse
Saturday: AMMQ & Scavenger Hunts
Sundays: Coded quests of a currently undetermined nature

Unfortunately, my playing hours are limited to around 7PM CST - 11PM CST weekdays, and I'm available *most* weekends, for .. er... very long stretches. :)

We did some fun "testing" of Cat and Mouse and have the following rules updates:

Concept:
The individual named MOUSE avoids the Cats!

How to Play:
* Quest Conditions are employed. All Cats and the Mouse Signup.
* Quest Begins: the Mouse gets a thirty second head start. Countdown is provided for the Cats.
* Quest Continues until Mouse is caught or Cats run out of time.

Clarifications:
* The Mouse MAY NOT stay in Solitary / Private / Safe rooms.
* the Mouse MAY NOT hide behind locked doors / in locked areas.
* the Mouse MAY NOT quaff recall/Summon/Teleport/etc to escape no exit rooms. They are considered Trapped, and must wait out the quest duration, or a Cat finding them.
* The Zone or Room name of the Mouse will be announced by the sponsoring Immortal of that game, as often as possible, at minimum every 30 seconds.
* The Mouse is considered 'found' and 'tagged' when a Cat engages them in
combat, initiates emoted or socialed contact, Faerie Fogs, or area spells,
etc. That Cat then becomes the next Mouse, and gets a 30 second lead
to escape and be chased.
* the mouse MAY use Guild portals to duck in and out of home towns.
* the mouse MAY use the vortex.
* Obscure, Invis, Sneak, Hide are all legal by Cats or Mice.
* Summon, Darkness, Portal, Teleport by any participants or their immortals are NOT legal.
* Participants MAY NOT wizard mark one another.
* Immortals MAY NOT teleport or otherwise assist Cats or Mice with hunting or hiding.
* Mice may not lock themselves into rooms or zones to avoid capture.
* The safety of the Mouse is not guaranteed, or that of the Cats. Quest conditions will be in place, but strange things sometimes happen. Play at your own risk.
* Any Cat or Mouse that violates a rule is ejected from the game.

Prizes:
There will be a prize for each mouse who survives to the end of the round.

I'm supposing quest restrictions are put in place to eliminate debt/pk potential?

Cordir
April 1st, 2011, 07:00 AM
Yes: Some folks were specifically saying they were NOT participating, just so they could PK and get around the whole 'Hey, please be cool and don't PK during my games' thing.

Also, for the Cat & Mouse games, because there's specifically combat involved, that's why I wanted to make sure folks debt/justifications don't get all messed up.

Info on Cat & Mouse and Bug Hunt are now on the Wiki. I'll be using that from now on as the 'official' spot for any rules changes.

Over the weekend, ran two quests: The Quest of Fire and the Quest of Water. Both were individual quests, and were completed by Kylor (water) and Ridley (Fire). The prizes were items created a long time ago by Molo, which, to my knowledge, have never been given out. Look for the Quest of Earth and Quest of Air, coming soon.

[ 32] Cordir: A Challenge
Sun Apr 10 00:59:58 2011
To: All Who Dare
Guardian has laid waste to many an adventurer during the Bug Hunts.
No one has been able, thus far, to withstand her fangs and claws. At
Noon, System time, tomorrow, I will set her in the arena. Any group
of up to five individuals who wishes to take her on, may attempt to.
Any who succeed, will gain a reward.

-Cordir, Ebon Goddess of Night

"Tomorrow" being Sunday.

(This quest begins in 1 hour 15 minutes)

The team of Linkin, Pein, Soloban, Daisy, and Rath demolished their way through not only my Guardian Spider, but also Lanae. They asked for more challenges: the third, brought them all low in a matter of 4 rounds: The Sable Dragon. Undaunted and in good humor, they asked to fight Scar -- and again, won. Thank you, gentlemen, for your good sportsmanship and effort in this quest.

Erm. The Guardian you guys fought probably wasn't *my* guardian... because I was inactive during that time. And if it somehow *was* *my* guardian... she was a fraction of her current self. :)
