This is just something i was thinking about.... agree? disagree? something to add?

anyway as it stands we can hire bounty hunters. But how about when we have troubles with npc's? Maybe i got killed somewhere nasty and there is no one on to help me retrieve a corpse, but i have gold in mish.... so could i hire some help? Im thinking hiring a mercenary/bodyguard to help with npc's and possibly pc's as well provided that they are attacking my group. I could hire a lvl X mercenary for Y gold per level. This mercenary would autimatically join my group and use the guard command, as to protect me from foes i encounter. I think it would be neat if i could buy a few mercenaries and make runs by myself or maybe with one other through some of the rougher zones. It would be up to me to stop and let the mercenary regen, or heal it up ect.... i would suggest keeping them warriors as to keep things less complicated...

this idea isnt really planned out just something i thought would be pretty cool. can anyone else add ideas for developent?

ok. so what if someone died in a nasty zone, and someone else, maybe really small even, bought a hired guard and retrieved your corpse? that wouldnt seem fair if they wouldn't belong in that zone. Interesting though. cool idea

does anyone really think that if i a 28/30 cleric warrior died in a zone that a lvl 11 could keep a mercenary alive long enough to get there? if so....and he can do it before i get to my corpse... then he deserves it. If someone else has earned the gold to afford a mercenary for help to my corpse, then they deserve it. If i have the benefit so should everyone else right?

Just adding my thoughts like you asked. and yes it would be nonsense if a level 11 could go grab a corpse where a 28/30 died::down::

I think this idea kills the sense of community and player interaction TFC has always had, as well as makes it a bit too easy. I'm reminded of something Madman told me once - "No one wins this game alone". Very true words,

People die in nasty zones all the time and have to rely on other players or their own skills to get their corpse back. If you're exp'ing in a zone where you need big bodyguards to keep you alive, you simply shouldn't be in that zone at that level (or should explore in a group with other PC's).

It's one thing to provide some services via code for convenience's sake (e.g. bid locates, ID's at Angelina, etc) but these services fall short of what another PC can provide - good items don't get sold through Mish very often and PC's have access to far more eq, Angelina doesn't mark items, etc.

Even though activity on TFC has declined some in recent years, it's far from a barren place and activity levels are still pretty high. I think this should be a time to really stress PC to PC interaction and not provide ways for PC's to completely avoid each other.

Cheers,

When I implemented guard, I was thinking about low level mob guards.

The guard implementation has problems. I'm seriously considering removing it.

I'm also concerned that we're using mobs as surrogates for players. I understand the allure. I just wonder if that will further erode our need for others, which will in turn provide less incentive to play.

Maybe make it so that the gold cost is so extreme, it wouldn't be feasible for anything but a 'Damn, I need this NOW' deal.
