So... players have the option to enter an email address upon character creation. I was thinking it might be interesting to send out an email letter, inviting folks who haven't played in 6+ months, to come back.
Maybe share some news about what the mud's been up to, the growth of the forums, Twitter account for communication, regular quests, etc.
Good idea? or stalker-ish?

You are invited to do so, at character creation. It's helpful, in case you lose your password or want a restoral: That can be used as a piece of verification information.
When I became a god+ and pulled my very first administrative CMDLOG request, it sent it to the email address that I used at character creation back in 1996... Wasn't I surprised to see THAT in the system. (Point being, that those who have been around a long time CAN request an email update: Tynian was gracious enough to fix mine for me.)

Well, I jumped on my own bandwagon, and sent out a note about the TFC Wiki to every single inactive player I had in my personal email address book. Over 20 instantaneous 'account not found' messages piling in from Hotmail and Gmail, I've had two folks respond, and they're going to stop by the wiki and take a look!

When I saw this thread I thought it was going to be a sort of "referral" system. Say I have a friend who I think might like TFC, I can send an email to him via the game inviting him to come and play. Whether there could be any in-game ties is another question, eg bonus equipment, extra xp when the referred and referee xp together, etc. Maybe just too open to abuse by existing players referring their new chars...
