View Full Version : Allow people to train LUCK

Not an original idea by any means, but:

I propose allowing people to train LUCK. If Tynian is uneasy about allowing this, perhaps the price can be inflated to 3 trains per point of LUCK or something.

Reasoning:

Indeed, players can wear +LUCK equipment. However, players can also wear +D/A equipment. The difference is that you will never lose D/A as a result of a level. When you have that equipment on, you know you have X amount of the stat for as long as you wear the items.

With LUCK, you can be wearing +6 LUCK to counter-balance your low natural stat and "Feel less lucky" upon levelling. Now your +6 LUCK is worth more like +4 or +5 LUCK and you don't have a way to fix it because you can't use trains (You'd have to put more luck items on).

When this occurs with, say, STR... your +6 STR worn becomes worth +5 STR, but at least you have the opportunity to fix it using trains (You don't necessarily have to put more str items on).

Since LUCK affects hitroll now, shouldn't the same rules apply? (e.g. trainable like STR, WIS, DEX, etc.)

I disagree with the idea of training luck.

I also disagree with the idea of training +DA. ;)

While it is true your luck can go down upon level, it can also go up.

Unlike the other stats, I wanted luck to have a more intangible nature. It is what it is. Unless you modify it by magic, of course, which we allow via +LUC equipment.

Okay.

But let me as you this:

Shouldn't someone who is extremely lucky have an extremely small chance of becoming LESS lucky upon leveling?

For example:
I had HIGH luck and wore +6 additional luck (putting me well into extraordinary for gnomes). Somehow I then became less lucky two levels in a row and dropped down to AVG luck.

Becoming less lucky is one of the most unlucky things that occur.. and two levels in a row? Should this really occur if I am extraordinarily lucky? Seems like a contradiction, wouldn't you say?

Luck, by its very nature, is fickle.

You have an equal chance of luck ticking upward.

And really, changing its nature as you suggest would be a Bad Thing, especially if one looks at the other extreme, bad luck. One's luck would just spiral downward at a certain point.
