I brought this one back to a more traditional style for medieval songs. personally, it's one of my favorites. The numbers listed to the right of each line are included to show the linear sylabic symetry.
The Shattering
‘I rue to leave this Cit-a-del,’ 8
Cried’ good-king Zen-ta-ri-on, 7
‘But keeping safe the Dwarven race 4/4
Must come before our pride,’ 6
All dwarves before our pride. 6
The King, he left The Flame behind, 8
To burn the darkness and remind 8
The Cavern’s stones who’d carved its bones: 4/4
His people and his bride, 6
His Queen Sylette, his bride. 6
The Cit-a-del had served them well 8
A-gainst both polyps and n’Kai 8
Dwarves guarded well by crystal spell, 4/4
Carved from the mountains heart 6
They’d carved the mountains heart 6
To their west they did their best 7
To pull the metal from the stone 8
Their mine bore down into the ground 4/4
To Duegar claims intrude, 6
The Dark Dwarves took it rude. 6
The Duegar King offended by 8
The trespass on his kingdom’s lie, 8
A plan he hatched and spy dispatched, 4/4
To break the crystal spell, 6
To shake that warding spell. 6
The goad he found no flaw to spite 8
Within the carven heart of stone, 8
But in his plight he fell in sight 4/4
Of Card’nal’s watchful eye, 6
Auroron’d seen the spy. 6
The Cleric cried for Sha-man Guard, 8
Go-lems and Cap-tain Ca-rin 7
Then conjured spell that foe to fell 4/4
And let the magic fly, 6
The priest let magic fly. 6
The holy flames engulfed the foe 8
And sealed him up from head to toe 8
In nearest stone: the mountain’s bone 4/4
Within the mountains heart, 6
He was caught within the heart. 6
With that dark taint within its bounds, 8
The flawless stone a flaw had found, 8
And shuddered grim, then shattered trim, 4/4
The mountain’s heart in parts… 6
The stone ward flown apart, 6
The Duegar king, he praised the crash 8
That echoed of his vengeance won 8
He held his lash and breath did catch, 4/4
For foe’s impending doom, 6
For light dwarves coming doom. 6
The swarming spawn and polyps check’d 8
No more by that crystal ward 7
Tumbled the walls and entered all, 4/4
Upon the dwarves to feast, 6
The monsters had their feast. 6
“We must fall back!” The steward cried, 8
Before these polyps and n’Kai, 8
To Dwarvenhold, and Keep’s enfold, 4/4
Before all of us must die, 7
Before none were left to die.. 7
‘I rue to leave this Cit-a-del,’ 8
Cried’ good-king Zen-ta-ri-on, 7
‘But keeping safe the Dwarven race 4/4
Must come before our pride,’ 6
All dwarves before our pride. 6
