Thread: Fireproof and fireshield

    Question Fireproof and fireshield

Fireproof is an action flag on a mob, described in the AWG as "Mob aided not hurt by fire". That seems self-explanatory. However, fireshield is an affect flag on a mob, not described in the AWG.

It might be that fireshield merely reduces damage from fire attacks, or that one involves fire breath and the other fire spells, or that one involves area spells and the other directed spells, but in none of these cases does it make sense that one is an action and the other an affect.

Anyone know how these flags work, specifically? And are any rules for their use (dragon-only, for example)?

PS. While I'm on the subject of mob flags, can someone please explain how the anti-magic and invulnerable flags work exactly?

    Thanks

I'm not sure what any of those flags do for sure. Once we find out though, I'll have the explanation added to the Area Writers Guide.

Tynian, do you know or can you look up what those flags do?

    Thanks,

(Just curious if you are planning to use any of the flags you mentioned, Ylang -- instruction used to be to avoid them... But hey - if we can understand what they do, maybe the flags will add a little something something? )

    Hi,

There was another mud where I played that had spells like those two..

fireproof allowed the caster to survive dragons and volcanos and fireshield .. high mana cost and short duration

fireshield both shielded the caster and caused just short of Caps damage to the opponent. It was a very high mana spell and short duration. Without fireproof .. the caster would suffer damage at a slighlty higher rate than from poison. If the opponent had fireshield cast as well .. the fireshield merely acted like an improved version of shield. I beleive the spell also had a delay before being recastable.

You know, these spells would almost make mages think they liked attacking dragons.

I have no plans for invulnerability or anti-magic, but if I understand them better, some ideas might come up. I am planning to use one of the fire flags, but how and where exactly would spoil the surprise

I see these sort of flags as infrequently useful. They don't make sense in most cases, but they do offer some opportunities both to develop a mob or area's narrative, and to make mobs at level 30+ a bit more interesting and varied.

    FIRESHIELD was never implemented.

Heh, good thing I used fireproof then.

I've also used the anti-magic flag. Is that implemented? I have a few mobs that are "projections" of (or created by) a powerful sorcerer. They're magical creatures, leave no corpse, are not aggro, and do not need to be killed. They serve a narrative purpose more than anything else, but as projected images should be very hard to kill even when they're fairly low level. (In fact, if there was a flag for invulnerability to mundane attacks, but susceptibility to magical ones, I'd have used that instead.)

I'd still like explanations of both anti-magic and invulnerability, if they're implemented.

    Thanks

    AFF_INVULNERABLE is not implemented.

    Neither is ANTI-MAGIC.
