Thread: Stat Sucking Mobs

    Default Stat Sucking Mobs

Here's an idea I had today: What if there was a mob prog created that would work in conjunction with all ready very difficult mobs that would sap your stats? Why would we want that? Because we could put some really kickass items out there and then players would have to decide whether or not it was worth running in and maybe losing 3 str permanently for one awesome item. People would probably be a bit fearless the first few times if they could handle the mob because I know many people have extra trains, but what about after they're gone? Interesting? yay nay?

I think I would rather let someone get the item and loot their corpse for it before I would consider risking my stats.

This is kind of a good idea.. only cause people already have spare trains and imagine how much they'll have when they level 50/50/50. [good lord..]

I'd support it.. only cause I know I'm in no position to tank these kinds of mobs =P

Interesting - but not my idea of fun. Nay.

    Ugh. Gah. Scary.

Not everyone gets a lot of trains. If I remember right, in 30 levels as a mortal mage, I got exactly *one.* And believe you me, my stats *sucked* and I really really REALLY needed those trains I never got.

like it is today, not everyone is fit to fight these types of mobs. It's about the reward that's on them.

Well, It's a creative idea... though I don't think theres a limited item in the game worth this kind of permanant risk. Also, the last time limited items of this caliber were put into the game many things were reduced in power because people thought they brought unbalance to the realm. The same thing would happen here, because after those items purge mish will sell them and you won't have to go pop the items anyway. If there were permanantly "stat sucking mobs", I would hope the reward would be something less temporary then a limited item.

are we talking about a new archmagic like 'drain stat' or 'drain level'? I've seen similar stuff in certain other games, but there's always a way to respond to it, like a special quest (like a fountain somewhere in a tough zone they must drink from) or high level spell to cancel the effect. If you were to implement this, perhaps one way to deal with this would be that once it takes place, the character has x ticks to cure the drain before it becomes permanent. if the character dies before x ticks, the countdown clock runs out, making the effect permanent on death.

in short, i like it, but there should be some way to respond to it.

    Cool I am a genius .. I am very smart.. I am smart..I'm awake..me here..duh..*drool*...

    Greetings,

I like the idea ... except the part that it would be permanent.

Trains dont fall off of trees as a rule and by the time someone gets to eff 50, most dont have any trains left.

I would rather the effect be temporary and the stats come back up after the combat is over.

Imagine losing dex and your eq starts falling .. and you cant retrieve a weapon

Would I (as a mortal) fight a mob like that ? (if the stats loss was permanent? )
    Alone? Never!
Grouped? Very very very very very very very doubtful (.00000000000001 yes)

    Default I..

Don't think items fall when your dex drops.. isn't there a spell that lowers your dex.. like poison?

I don't know if it still does it, but yes... back in the day, inflicting someone with poison was a way to disarm them, and they were unable to pick up their weapon. It was also a means that people would use to remove a No-Remove weapon.

This idea would work if there were a way to ensure you could "fix" the stat losses by somehow getting extra training sessions. If we could somehow buy training sessions, then people would have no problem risking them to get a nice piece of eq. Perhaps, instead of it just being another limited item it would somehow be bonded to the player who kills (or loots) the mob in question? I'm not a big fan of a permanent stat loss because clearly nobody will ever risk it, regardless of how nice the item really is. Permanent stat loss = create and level a new eff 50. No thanks!
