Default Latest version of Thor's Area Creator

This thread will be updated with the latest versions of Thor's Area writer. I will delete the old posts in this thread when there is a new version. For now I have copied the last post from Thor in which he announced version 1.0.4 which is below.

Thor posted on May 29th, 2010

A few more fixes for version 1.0.4

    http://kirbyprogramming.railsplaygro...fc/install.jar

    Changelog:
    Code:
    NEW FEATURES
    BUG FIXES
        * More fixes on handling whitespace
        * Exits to nowhere still had some problems
        * Areas with area numbers of less than 2 digits didn't load correctly

If you're using the editor you should update to this version ASAP. While this isn't a 100% guarantee it won't wreck your area file (back up often) it is MUCH LESS likely now. Plus "automatic" updates. It will check for a new installer and ask if you want to download it if there is one. And then it will simply reinstall the editor. It's a "hack" but it's the easiest thing to do right now.

    http://kirbyprogramming.railsplaygro...fc/install.jar

    Code:
    Version 1.0.5
    NEW FEATURES
        * AUTOMATIC UPDATES!!
        * Started moving error messages to a log file called errors.log
    BUG FIXES
        * Creating a new place reset was impossible
        * Room extra descriptions did not work if there was a mob/object in the room
        * SAVING WILL NO LONGER WIPE OUT AN AREA FILE IF THERE WERE ERRORS IN THE SAVE

I think some of the object values might not save right now. I forgot to fix it before posting the new version. I'll fix it soon.

If you already have version 1.0.5, it will auto-update next time you start the program.

    http://kirbyprogramming.railsplaygro...fc/install.jar

    Code:
    Version 1.0.6
    NEW FEATURES
        * Item values from a list (spell number, weapon damage type, etc...) now are a list box instead of requiring user lookup
        * Errors.log is now created in the same directory as the JAR file
    BUG FIXES
        * No bugs fixed this version

I updated to 1.0.6 this morning, then opened the program and was prompted again that there was a new version.

I'm also getting the below errors in the terminal console. Nothing is in the error log file.

    Nov 18, 2010 5:45:51 PM java.util.prefs.FileSystemPreferences$7 run
WARNING: Prefs file removed in background /etc/.java/.systemPrefs/prefs.xml
    Nov 18, 2010 5:46:21 PM java.util.prefs.FileSystemPreferences syncWorld

    Version 1.0.8

Sorry, I had to remove automatic word wrapping. I've searched for days on how to make that work right and I haven't found anything yet. Almost seems like it's not possible to make Java work that way. I'm certainly open to suggestions.

    http://kirbyprogramming.railsplaygro...fc/install.jar

    Code:
    Version 1.0.8
    NEW FEATURES
        * Automatic word wrap is disabled for now. Spent days trying to google how
to make this work. All the methods mentioned requiring the user to press
          enter to wrap lines.
        * Help->About now has a "Check for updates" button.
    BUG FIXES
        * Door types no longer initialize with a value of -2.

I've confirmed this. I created a new weapon in a test area file, I set the damage range and then added +1 damage to the item. I saved the file and then closed the editor and then re-opened the item in the editor. The weapon damage range and the +1 damage were not saved.

I also wanted to add, that I did not see any errors in the Terminal nor are there any errors in the error log.

Well, the good news is, they ARE saving...at least when I tried it. They just aren't loading. I'll have it fixed shortly.

Ah, that's cool. At least stuff that is already entered will not have to be entered again.

I'm not ready to change the version yet, but in the interest of getting it out there quickly, I uploaded the fix. The automatic update won't pick it up you'll need to download it manually if you want the item values fix.

now my extra descriptions on items are doing the same thing. either not saving or not loading

still not saving the values on items. I set a fountain to value lvl 30 bless and it doesn't save. if I exit the value window then go back in it will still be there, but if I click on a different object then back to the fountain and check it again, the value is gone.

Did you download and install the new version of the Editor? It's still 1.0.8 but there were some changes in it.

As an aside, fountains like this should be approved first. Level 30 is way too high for something like this. I also think we have enough fountains on the mud such as these.

I just figured where you get bless at level 5 it would only go off at level 35 which is actually only one level higher then a normal cleric wearing wisdom. so the gain would still be 5hr -5svs, I can remove the fountain but I just wanted to clarify that I didn't get it approved because it's in the safe room at the back of the zone and I didn't see it as abusable....

Still having problems with applies and values disappearing but I think I might be on to something. It seems they disappear when I edit mob or obj resets that involve the item in question.

ugh... actually I tried to reproduce that and that's not the only thing that causes it. I just saved the file, closed program , opened it again, all my applies were gone.

actually whatever is causing this seems to be timed exactly with the extra descriptions that are disappearing. they are all disappearing together.
