Default To the death!! (kinda long, but fun)

It was a late night hanging around in the guild hall. As I recall I was trying to instigate a fight with Leif, a fellow ranger, when the discussion about the magical powers of portaling broke the ice. "A powerful amulet of Blocking will prevent you from being portalled." I told him but he didn't believe me or trust me. Some others that were hearing the conversation were also unaware of this magical function of blocking amulets so I decided it was my civic duty to demonstrate for them how it works. I retrieved my own blocking amulet and hung it around my neck then I followed Abel and instructed him to group me and portal to a safe room nearby. Something of a hush came over the room as each person anticipated some form of deception. The hermit was careful at first, allowing me to join his group then quickly removing me from it in order to see if I had some nasty plan up my sleeve. The seed of an evil idea had long been growing in my mind and I had no such intentions as to reveal myself so easily. So, after several of these grouping and ungrouping tests Abel groups me and portals to a nearby safe room. Naturally as I had already explained I did not follow thanks to my blocking amulet. Now that my original point had been proven it was time to enact my plans. Knowing that the Hermit would not be able to remove me from his group unless we are in the same room I quickly set about running to a remote location to to hide under the cover of my own magical silence and darkness. I needed time to set myself mentally so that I would be able to act quickly upon our next meeting. I used the few moments between movements to strike up a group conversation with the Hermit on topics that I know he enjoys discussing in order to ease some of his edge, this went well I felt as he was eager to tell me about his recent successes. Now my favorite fight as a ninja is naturally a fight to the death and the one way to assure this would be to move the fight into an area that cannot be escaped and recall magic would not work. I chose the chamber's of the demon Zul, deep within the dreaded demon realm. I worked quickly along the path using my magical darkness and frequently jumping from combat with ninja-like speed and before long I stood fighting with Zul himself in that gods forsaken death trap. Upon slaying the beast I offered everything in the room as sacrifice to IvoryTiger and set down my unique magical markings upon the floor. In order to preserve as much advantage as possible I also set a magical alarm and cast upon the room a silence spell. Now the trap was set. I portalled back to the lower hall and retraced my mark upon my willing assistant Mish Salvandor. I knew I would have to act quickly once the Hermit arrived so I set an alarm upon the floor and hid below the staircase that leads to the hallway above. Several times I had to revisit the chambers of Zul to reset the trap while I waited for the Hermit to arrive and then my lucky break. Mish held a public auction in order to get rid of some dusty old muddy potion. Since it was a public auction I was aware of the winner - Abel. Knowing he would be along shortly to claim his prize I drank several potions that I had been saving in order to further bestow magics upon myself then I sank deep into my hiding place and waited. Sure as rain the Hermit arrived and my training kicked in with blinding speed!! In an instant we were alone in the desolate chambers of Zul, surrounded by painting after painting of destruction upon the walls, the scene was set. I began my attack with the touch of the vampire, effectively ending our time as a group and draining his life force into myself. I knew he was nobody to lie down and die so as soon as the fight had commenced I quickly quaffed a sanctuary potion and uttered the magical words to fill the room with darkness. I had originally planned that this would prevent the Hermit from retreiving items from his many containers, items that might allow him to cleanse my magical trap or even provide him with his own santuary. My plans would fail however and my greatest surprise came next. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but I only need nine to describe what I saw next upon the face of the Hermit, for it is forever burned into my memory. Out of the magical darkness came shamanic powers and all at once every magical spell I had set upon the room was gone. Before me stood the Hermit, arms outstretched in the final throws of gesturing and that grumpy look upon his face spelled out his thoughts for me.
"THIS HERMIT WILL NOT DIE SO EASILY FOOLISH NINJA"
With that the playing field had been leveled and so began the dance of death. Neither able to escape and both knowing that only one would survive we began launching our deadliest assaults upon each other. The Hermit had been attacked without provocation and this deep insult affects the powers of our magic in such a way that our spells can sometimes be much more devastating. Knowing this he threw upon my flesh and armor a blast of magical acid and I answered with the draining touch of the vampire. Knowing this would be a battle of resources and that my resources would soon litter the floor, the feeling of fear washed through me like a wave of fire. The deadly tango of battle layed waste to everything in the room and my belongings were soon being crushed beneath struggling feet. In a frantic haste I gathered what I could off the floor and threw down my shimmering vials in order to preserve whatever powers I could. The fight would go the distance as neither Hermit nor Ninja would accept failure and eventually we both became magically exhausted, unable to further cast any spells. Both of us still protected by a powerful magical sanctuary and both having our own stash of healing magics we resorted to a more personal form of combat, punching and kicking and slashing away at each other with reckless abandon. In my fatigue my ability to see the invisible fell away from my eyes and I could not even think clear enough to retrieve my amulet of true sight. Uncertain now as to the health conditions of the hermit I fought the unseen foe to my last potion. Death was near now and the realization had begun to set in when one last urge to cast came over me. I threw my most well cast dispel magic spell of my life but it was too little too late. The Hermit had seen death around the corner as well and with one swoop of his scalpel he removed from his body all his worldly possesions and offered them in sacrifice to IvoryTiger. My concern for the loss of his magical items was nothing compared to the relief I felt to have been the victor in such a tremdous battle to the death and so with one final swing of my flaming sword I decapitated the smelly beast. After a brief rest I returned to my home town to contemplate the events. The Hermit, revived by the powers of the gods and naked in his home temple, utter a public vow to avenge this act. I eagerly await you hermit, for a duel to the death is my deepest lust.

Awesome. Really cool idea to turn it into a narrative, Ky. Better luck next time, Abel!

Could be kinda cool if you included bits of the log to supplement the narrative too.

    a) If you're using Cmud or ZMud or pretty much most mud connection programs other than Telnet, there are means of automatically creating a log. Been doing it for years. If you'll let me know what program you use, I'll help you figure out how to set up a log.

    b) Ink, be nice.

    c) Name-calling, not nice.

I use Zmud and I won't seem to accept anything over a thousand lines which only covered the last half of the fight. We actually kicked each other for like 30 rounds or something and I didn't want to post a half log. Man, that was a good one, don't get too many like that these days.

Zmud does have a BUFFER size limit of 1000 lines, but you can create a log in trigger to automatically start a log file for you, that doesn't have a line limit. (Some of my Zmud log files are well upwards of 500 pages in length.). If you ever want to start a log on the spur of the moment, go to File / Start Log and give it a name. It should save in your default zmud directory. For an auto log, I trigger on the Press RETURN cue: Press RETURN to continue: #log {%time("m-d-yyyy-h-mm-am/pm")} . Hope that helps.
