Thread: Escaping and Avoiding PK

    Default Escaping and Avoiding PK

I figure I'll pitch in my advice for those who want to read it. I read the advice that has been posted recently and there are a few things I can see that I don't like about it. Don't ever flee/c spell when someone jumps you since you can lose concentration and even if the spell works it lags you for one round allowing your pursuer to hit you again, that is a bad idea. Here's what I used to do to avoid PK before I adapted my "take every fight I can" policy...

    1. Use every natural defensive tactic available to you at all times. Alarms, phosphate, pump TS, whatever it is and do a whoz ALL THE TIME!!
    2. Yes it's cheap but oh well everyone does it. Check the stats page regularly!! If there is someone on that you can't see SAFE SIT!
    3. Potions have no lag, they are fast and friendly, stock them in high number and organize them meticulously!!
    4. Potions for fighting can be in bags, potions for -escaping- can NOT, they MUST be in your inventory!!! Here is a rough draft of what you need to carry IN YOUR INVENTORY
-remove curse x1, and have you remove curse alias/trigger set to quaf/retrieve next potion from bag...
-cure blind x2, also set to retrieve another after quafing. carry two in case you use one in darkness or they get stolen.
-recalls. I carry 3 or 4 depending on how much room I got and I use shimmering vials since there are less items in the game that respond to "shimmering" fact is there are tons of "recall" items and "red" items, why make it easier for the PKers right....
-JUMP potions. POTIONS HAVE NO LAG you can set an alias/macro/trigger to quaf jump/quaf recall back to back and both potions will be quaffed at nearly the exact same moment which means you can safely recall in a locked room even though you can't flee. I have escaped COUNTLESS locked rooms because of this, as long as they are recallable. Using pass door is NOT safe because any doors that can be locked can NOT be passed.
-sanity. I carry one in my inventory even though this one is less of a priority. sometimes when fear'd or confused you can't retrieve the potion from a bag so having it in your inventory is one less command that could go wrong.

So in conclusion your inventory should be:
    (2) an ink sac
    (3) a shimmering vial
a magenta potion with (whatever nice spell) swirls
    (2) a bright white potion with (whatever nice spell) swirls
a glowing potion (be sure its remove curse and not strength) with (nice spell) swirls

then whatever other junk you need to carry. just be sure you set your buttons and stuff all to get potions from bags to replenish your inventory as you use them and ALWAYS RUN FIRST then ask questions later. Don't even THINK about what is happening. As SOON as you are disturbed by a PKer in any way hit your flee/quaf 2.shimmering button, if it doesn't work then IMMEDIATELY hit your quaf jump/quaf 2.shimmering button. if anyone gives you items during a PK then try to drop them quickly and hit your escape button right away before the PKer can give you more. Avoiding PK is a matter of playing safely and not taking risks with PKers around. If you must take a risk and leave safe then watch that zone and be ready to run at a moments notice.

When she was mortal, Katrana wrote a guide for players on How Not To Get PK'd. Here it is, hope you find it helpful.

Thanks for the post Kylor, my system works pretty well for me, but I'm going to add the retrieve trigger to my potions and change a couple things around.

Also keep a pass door potion in inventory, especially good for escaping closed doors without having to type to open door and flee...
I always keep pass door in inventory as well as to pull another out when i use it.

also if someone is attempting to summon you, being in combat is the safest thing, do not move rooms, just quaff a recall *as soon as the mob dies*

Well naturally everyone is free to use whatever system they want to but don't say I didn't warn you when you get into my range Rhysling and you try that flee/c dark or flee/c cloak move on me cause I can break your cloak in one spell then I get another full round of huge swings on you, not to mention if you lose concentration. bottom line is spells slow you down and escaping is about speed, so my advice is don't even think about casting, just focus on getting away.

Very good advice in this thread guys. I don't have much to add, other than what I already said in tenko's post about alarm if you're a mage...use it and use it often.
That being said, I would say that it's better to die early and often trying to get better at fighting, rather than running. THe pain of losing a mostly-pit-gear set is minimal, the pain of losing 2x simples, nydia ammies, 5dmgs etc etc is not. Big items/sets do not make you a better player, practice definitely does!
Also, this is a game so keep that in mind when you take a risk and it doesn't pay off.....it's JUSt a game......

This *WILL* be helpful. Is this posted someplace? I must have missed it.

No offense to anyone here but why are you guys still posting these out of date tactics... you can NOT teleport from combat any more nor can you teleport for a couple moments after a flee so that just does not work..... you can also NOT teleport out of a norecall room so don't try it.... there are several tactics posted on the wiki that are really really old and just do not work any more. if anything we need to all combine our recent tactics and come up with a more clear cut and modern post for potential newbies.

    Thumbs up

Rincewind, I'm certain that if there is info there that's out of date, you or anyone can update it. With a wiki, any user can edit the site content, including other users' contributions. So have at it.

    * This is why, for you students, your teacher doesn't allow the use of Wikipedia as a credible source, and why, in my profession, we don't cite Wikipedia as reliable. But for our purposes, the TFC Wiki is an excellent method for collaboration. You oldbie's have a wealth of mudding knowledge that can be shared with me, well, all of us really. The Wiki is perfect for this. So let me publicly say now, thank you for sharing! It would be so easy for players to be selfish with what they know and just keep it to themselves. I'm so encouraged by all of your generosity.Thanks.

The info I posted was from an article Katrana wrote before she immorted. So yep: The info was apparently out of date - unfortunately, no one mentioned that after I posted it on this thread. I hope you'll take the opportunity to correct whatever is wrong on the wiki pages, as Tenko suggested.

I'll take a moment to edit the wiki in the morning since I can barely move at the moment. I'm also going to add in some of those wise suggestions from the ever sexy ninja that started this post (with his permission).

Are you still planning to edit the wiki? I'm waiting to learn from your wisdom....
