Thread: Why don't YOU play shaman?

Default Why don't YOU play shaman?

It's no secret that shaman is the least played of the 3 magic classes. Sure some people might have them, but they don't play them the most, whereas others don't even HAVE a shaman.

So...what's your reasoning? What deters you from playing shaman more frequently or at all?

Mine's lack of detect invis and lack of locate object.

I do play a shaman but I play other char's. Not having locate object and the ablity to exp quick solo hurts my want to finish the char. I don't mind the detect invis thing because I have a TS and have pretty much always had one but it does hurt to lose a slot with no way to gain those stats back.

I play a shaman and its easy. They serve fewer purposes but they excel at those purposes signifigantly.

... read the thread Kylor. You definitely play your other char(s)/class(es) more.

I prefer certain combinations of race and class. I view shamans as a very aggressive character. Currently, giant races need enhancement - they are the most well suited for the shaman class, yet it is incredibly difficult to equip these characters so that they land attacks during pvp combat.

I believe that if you did an active race comparison you would find that there are far less ogres and giants then other races. Since shaman is their only magical class, there is a direct correlation between the lack of these races and the lack of shaman characters.

So, I take it the strategy is to keep mentioning shamans in the hopes that I'll get tired of hearing about them and rush to "fix them up."

The first part of the plan has succeeded! The second part has probably backfired, since I'm now less interested in shamans than ever before.

Actually Tynian, it's always been to point out just how much they need work. I'm sorry if you find it annoying that I want to improve a class and make it more popular and playable.

That's fine by me, Teluin. If posting continuously about shaman improves the class, then post away.

As of now, no further shaman changes will be considered for version 5.0. Perhaps I'll have a better feeling about shaman once version 5 is finished.

It's not that, I just don't think the other classes need as much work. I've posted a few ideas for other classes, but then people always try to change them. My intent was never to annoy you :P I thought the ideas forum was there to post them.

I don't play a shaman because the wisdom changes have made mage/cleric offensive spells good enough that it's not worth giving up things like sanctuary or portal for a minor boost in spell damage output as a shaman.

When I get tired of mobmasteries, location quests, and mobhunts, I run rampant as my shaman. Really, I play my bard more often because he's a little more challenging.

I play my shaman mainly and there is nothing that has to be changed for them. They are fine. Not having detect invis is fine, not having locate object is fine. Deal with it, they're great at rifting, they're just fun. If you don't find them fun, don't play them!

The only thing that makes shamans "weak" are the totems. They are quite dodgy to cast, so they're quite useless. Other than that, unfetter is nice, exclude is nice... Nothing to complain Tynian, so don't "fix them up" :-).

Didn't you post about fixing exclude pretty recently?
