I don't remember if this was part of the v5 discussion or not, but I think the debt system should be tweaked. Essentially I think that it should be structured like so:
- Certain actions by players incur debt
- Actions are arranged hierarchically from least to most offensive
- Certain actions incur more debt than others
- Each class of action has a floor with the associated bounty. The debt would continue to accrue normally.
- Each player's debt is capped depending on their worst violation
This system is structured to allow for future actions to be associated with debt.
For the sake of argument, let's assume Tynian decides unjustified killing is a blacker sin than unjustified stealing.
For the sake of argument, let's assume Tynian decides the lowest bounty for a thief would be 100k, and the lowest bounty for a killer is 10k.
So under this system, a player who only accrues debt by stealing (let's call him Palmer) would never have a bounty lower than 100k. Palmer would still accrue debt points for stealing, meaning he would still have to bribe or be pardoned for those points before raising his bounty amount.
A player who accrues debt by stealing and murdering (let's call him Ink) could not have his bounty drop below 10k, because he has unjustifiably killed other players. Ink would still accrue debt points for stealing and killing, but he would have to bribe or be pardoned for those points before raising his bounty amount.
I think this is a more fair system, especially if the debt system is expanded to include other detrimental player actions.
