Allow non-metal wearing characters to wear metal equipment at a reduction of dexterity.
I've given this a lot of thought and I could build a detailed explination of how this would work provided there is sufficient interest / curiosity.

I already see a lot of non-metal wearers running around with elven chain gear, which has a better AC than the majority of gear that I have. When geared for it, I know of a leather wearer who is heavily armored and with ranger dex, for instance. There aren't many metal wearers left, I'm not a fan of removing one of the few differences we have remaining to us.
I think metal gear needs to be looked at for sure. Not sure how...I think this idea is interesting though. Perhaps halve the AC granted and subtract some dex based on the weight of the piece if a leather wearer is using metal? It would be hard to make a change that is useable by leather players but acceptable to metalheads...
I'd say if this were implemented, there would need to be heavy disadvantages. Not just decreased dex. Perhaps if the player is not thug, then pure leather wearers would be given lag equivalent to summon/blynd lag to cast any spell, along with the inability to swap gear to or from metal gear in battle.
Warrics/OM (and combinations there of) are getting hit pretty hard when it comes to the capability to being 'the tank' class...This suggestion, if not balanced accordingly, would put the warric (and various combinations) at more of a disadvantage.
Change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal.
No thanks
I had a whole thing written and then just deleted it. I think it is easier to say, I dont like the idea.
Not in favor of the idea. It violates too many of my pre-conceived notions.![]()
I wonder why anyone would be willing to give up dex for metal eq, hrmmm.
Other than wearing them in safe to sell/trade I mean.
Anduin,
You comments on the tfc forums are often insulting and hardly ever productive. Although it is given that you will disagree with most ideas - you are completely incapable of simply saying so. Your insistance on adding comments geared to insult characters and their suggestions are childish and rude. I would greatly appreciate it if you would refrain from commenting on any of my future posts.

How was that insulting? You write an idea that is clearly only beneficial to someone like you and then get angry when that's mentioned. No one wants to give up dex if they're out adventuring. If you could give a valid reason why others might then I would comment on it, but you weren't willing to do that.
And how is it a given that I disagree with most ideas? That's only true when they're bad ideas, or ones that I don't think should be a priority.
All ideas are valid ideas. Agreement can be an emotional touchy thing but those feelings are not welcome in idea threads. Please keep focused or I will close the thread.

I am entirely willing to explain the details of this idea if there is enough interest or curiosity amongst the player base to make it worthwhile.
Explaining this idea so that the core concept is not lost within the paragraphs of details will be difficult. I would first like to see if the player base is open to adjusting the current hard lined restrictions of equipment via class that are currently in place. I also think that it is beneficial to get some feedback before suggesting exactly what changes are appropriate to make this possible. Thankyou Katrana and Vale, for providing me with that feedback.

I agree with Anduin and others - this seems like a change that would only benefit an extreme minority of TFC players. I don't see why anybody is going to give up dex, or lag themselves or anything else just to wear metal. Not a big fan!
Hi,
Speaking for myself, I'm aganist this idea.
If it were to be implemented, I would like to see the following restrictions placed on non-metal wearing classes wearing metal:
- wearer's spell strength reduced by half (the metal restricts the gathering of magical energy) Clerics have trained to use their spells wearing metal.
- any spell like lightning bolt cast would affect the caster as well as the target (metal attracts electrical energy)
- any heat or flame spells would have a 50% better effect the second time its cast since the metal armor doesnt cool off as fast.
- dex reduced by 3 points (not trained or practiced in wearing metal armor)
- walking and flying takes 50% more moves/ energy ( alot more weight to move/ fly around )
- need to eat and drink 50% more often (the weight of the metal uses more energy and requires more food and water)
- Spells like lightning bolt at the wearer would case greater damage (attracts electrical energy) Cleric defensive spells are designed to channel that energy.
- sneak would be worthless since its hard to sneak around in clanking, clanging, banging metal armor.
Just a couple of suggestions ....
I await your considered opinions.![]()

Boromir
Lord of the Nexus
I think all of Boro's ideas make sense, but just because something makes sense for play style doesn't mean it makes sense to implement. Clerics and warriors get plate. End of story as far as I'm concerned.
